About Rev. Brendan McGuire

In this role as Vicar General, Fr. Brendan is responsible for special projects and in particular the implementation of the Diocesan Pastoral Plan which has recently been expanded to include Catholic School Education. Fr. Brendan also serves as pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in San José. Holy Spirit Parish has over 2,000 registered families and operates a double school, Pre-K through eighth grade with 600 students.

Before being ordained a priest in 2000, Fr. Brendan was Executive Director of PCMCIA, the PC Card trade association that promoted the international computer standard for laptop computers. He has a Master’s Degree in theology from St. Patrick’s Seminary and University in Menlo Park. He has an undergraduate degree in Electronic Engineering and Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Trinity College, Dublin. He recently completed the Stanford Executive Program, an intensive business leadership program for executives of large organizations. He is a native of Ireland and the youngest of twelve children.

Fr. Brendan leads a team in the Diocese of San José chartered to transform Catholic Elementary School Education. With a combined approach of new school governance, blended learning and collaborative learning models, this team is revitalizing the first seven of 28 schools into a new system of Catholic education.

He is a regular speaker on Stewardship, Forgiveness and Parish Leadership for parish retreats and diocesan clergy gatherings. Fr. Brendan is also author of three books on Sunday homilies and is currently writing three more books.
