About Francisco Castillo

Francisco Castillo-Fierro is from the town of Annandale, Virginia and grew up in the Washington, D.C. area. He graduated from Pomona College with a B.A. in International Relations and earned his Masters in Education from the University of Notre Dame. Francisco taught fifth grade for two years in Phoenix, Arizona before he traveled to Santiago, Chile to teach English to third graders for a year. After spending some time abroad, he returned home to teach high school Spanish in Washington, D.C. before driving across the country to teach middle school in San Jose, California. Since then, Francisco has stopped racking up frequent flyer miles and is now currently the Director of Individualized Learning at Cristo Rey San Jose.

Francisco is passionate about education and deeply believes that through education, cycles of poverty can be overcome. Being the first in his family to go to college, teaching is not solely a profession, but an opportunity to be a role model for students who grew up like he did. He sees himself in the faces of each of the students here at Cristo Rey, and he is committed to their academic, emotional, and spiritual well-being!
