About Billy Bludgus

Born and raised on the East Coast, Billy was first introduced to Jesuit education during his high school years at St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, NJ. The personal care and inspiration he received from the teachers and Jesuits at St. Peter’s laid the foundation for much of his career path.

Billy received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Secondary Education, and German from the University of Miami, where he also served as captain of the Cross-Country and Track & Field teams. During his college years, he studied abroad at the University of Vienna, earning diplomas in German Language and European Studies.

After college, Billy joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and was missioned to teach Math, Science, and English at Loyola High School in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; he also coordinated the school’s community service and retreat programs. During his three years in East Africa, Billy founded The House of Blue Hope, a non-profit which works to provide housing and educational opportunities for disadvantaged and orphaned Tanzanian children. He continues to serve as the foundation’s board president and returns to Tanzania every summer to visit the project, the staff, and the kids.

In 2008, Billy moved back to the U.S., and served for six years as the Director of Christian Service at Loyola School in New York City, where he also taught in both the Math and Theology Departments and coached girls’ basketball. During his time in New York, Billy completed a Master of Science degree in Education Administration and School Leadership at Fordham University and a two-year Ignatian Leadership and Spirituality program with the Jesuit Collaborative.

Billy is excited to be joining the Cristo Rey San José team and to be working with the school’s inspiring students. Outside of his work at Cristo Rey, Billy enjoys running, attempting to cook, reading all things about the African continent, and traveling. He’s excited to explore all that the West Coast has to offer.
