Celebrating Black History Month

This month, we had the pleasure of hosting the Black Student Union from Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, CA for a special Black History Month assembly at CRSJ. The students from the BSU presented on the history of Black History Month, and shared amazing talents such as singing cultural songs, exhibiting a prayer dance, and spoken word poetry highlighting the suffering and resilience of African Americans in the United States. Students from both schools gathered at lunch for some dialogue about celebrating diversity and our own cultural backgrounds, as well as the importance of including these celebrations in the larger context of American History. We were so lucky to have Bishop O'Dowd's BSU spend the day with us, and we can't wait for the next time we will be able to get together.
